If you need a full-size tripod that’s relatively “lighter weight” but is ultra compact and able to fit into any and all regular backpacks with ease then this carbon fiber tripods probably your best option with great maximum load.

This Tripod by Article is a great tripod not to mention the fact that it is under $200.00. I shoot with a full-frame Nikon D850, and all of my lenses are f/2.8 or bigger, so I am putting maximum load - a lot of weight on my tripod. I'm so glad someone finally made a ROCK SOLID small tripod!!! I like to hike, backpack, and shoot nature - flowers, animals, waterfalls, etc.. My carbon fiber tripods have great stability ... total pain to heft those guys some of the places I go. So I don't. I've got several aluminum carbon fiber tripods from similar level manufacturers. They are good, but still a bit bulky/long and really, I never extend the legs beyond maybe one segment as extending more they cross that line of adequate stability IMHO. And I have to rework them and/or remove the center column so they can go low. Then there are those table-top versions that are compact and light but are flimsy even from decent brands.

This tripod carbon fiber is an outstanding value. The fit and maximum load is good to excellent. The mechanics of movement of all the moving pieces is smooth and easy to operate. And although I could not say that it is as good as for example a Gitzo in build quality or sturdiness, it certainly approximates about 80% of both quality and stability of the Gitzo and does some things that the Gitzo will not do.

There was also included a small allen wrench and center column if you need to adjust the tension of the silver connectors that are located at the pivot points of the tripod legs.

When removed from the bag the travel tripod was shipped in a clear plastic bag, which was also a nice touch by Neewer. I was struck by the fact that there was also a drawstring bag of some crush material very nicely textured to protect the ball head.

I was, however, pleasantly surprised at the very light weight of this carbon fiber travel tripod. The bag is a very thick, well made, industrial style bag with lots of padding and an adjustable shoulder strap.

Contrary to what a previous reviewer stated, IT DOES fit in the bag without disassembly (something I always had to do when I worked on the road to get my tripod into a suitcase). Simply raise the center post to its highest position and collapse the legs to their shortest position. Pull the tabs at the tops of the legs and flip the legs up 180 degrees so the feet are now touching the head. It fits.

The ball head is as smooth as a $450 ball head I used at work. The tripod is very light and solid, like a much more expensive tripod.

I have been looking for that perfect ultra-light backpacking tripod for years and had been using a small carbon tripod with a 42" working height and Really Right Stuff's smallest ball head. At over 2lbs, I wasn't super excited about how that was working given that my compact camera kit weighs as much as my entire backpacking system combined! I knew I'd have to sacrifice working height but wasn't finding anything significantly lighter until the AOKA. This thing is crazy light, and small, but still is capable of supporting a Sony A7R series camera with a Sony 20mm 1.8 for nighttime photography. Yes, you'll be working from only about 28" height but to loose a full pound off my other setup AND have it be about 1/3rd the folded size makes me very happy. The old tripod took up basically one entire side of my ultralight pack but this little tripod can easily share a pocked with 2 waterbottles, it's that small. No, it's not as sturdy as a big tripod but if weight and size is the top priority and you're willing to compromise some stability this is a great solution.
